Total Dependancy on God

Early this year many of us have been making trips to the hospital doing both prayer and evangelism with the hope of seeing miraculous healings and salvations. It was during the month of March that we got to know this little baby girl, Ang Zhi Teng. She was only 9 months old and had been admitted to the hospital for more than 5 months! According to Aunt Lee Yan, her mum, she was born with respiration problem. Her left lung was out of position; higher than her right lung. So, she went through operation a few times. In the beginning it didn’t help. Finally, the left lung was back to its original, rightful position after an operation.

However, she couldn’t really breathe with her weak lungs. The doctor inserted a tube into her stomach as she can’t drink milk through her mouth. Any liquid that travel down her throat through her mouth doesn’t go into the stomach instead it goes to other body parts like the lungs area.

Many times we visited her and she looked fine, smiling with her huge marble eyes looking at us. Well, she cried many times upon seeing us too.

Then, on 20th April, her condition worsens. She was starting to have difficulty in breathing and was breathing rapidly. The phlegm produced added to her disadvantage. We seek the Lord and felt the urge to pray seriously for her. Looking at her stomach, God said He understand the pierce on her stomach. It was the same as what was done to Him when He was hung on the cross. With that, we stroke her hair, comforting her saying that Jesus knows the pain, loves her and will heal her. We sang, prayed and talked to her. That was all we could do. Then we left.

We went to look for her again on 26th April and couldn’t find her. We were then told that she was admitted to ICU on Monday, on the next day just after our last visit. It shocked me a little but we proceeded quickly. My heart was pounding so hard. Aunt Lee Yan was there by the bed, looking at her. Her condition had worsened. Her whole face was swollen and red due to the side effects of the medication. We could hardly see her beautiful eyes. Even the eyelids were swollen. Yet, getting closer to her, we could feel that she was trying to look at us. Her eyes turned slowly to our side as we stood beside her bed, calling her name. She was small, frail and defenseless. We took up the courage to hold back tears and speak courage into her as that was the only thing we could do at that moment. In the midst of her pain, she was trying to respond to our every word of comfort. She needs Jesus!

After praying and speaking word of faith into her heart, we started singing “Jesus loves me this I know”. This was the beginning of a deeper understanding of what the true meaning of “hospital visitation” is all about, for many of us. There’s a different feeling during this scenario happening too many of us and tears naturally strolled down our cheeks which isn’t a sign of hopelessness or sadness but of total surrendering knowing that God is in charged in every situation and only He can make things change. In times of desperation, we cry out more to God for a super intervention in this little life.

Yet, God is always good. When we start to surrender everything and allowing Him to take control, He will never fail us. He took hold of the situation and gave us hope! While we were singing, a vision was seen. The vision shows Jesus taking her from the bed, holding her high up with both of His hands, above His head. In that vision, all tubes, needles etc were detached from her body. Jesus looked at her in the eyes and kissed her. She was smiling, laughing and giggling, the way a child would be when she is playing. She was healed! It was a silent, gentle and assuring moment. It’s a promise of healing for her!

We then decided to go into more concentrated prayer for her, focusing on her for the moment. We fasted and prayed for a week with much tears and perseverance.

We decided to visit her again on 1st May and found that she got slightly better. She was assisted by less-severe-breathing equipment, attached to her mouth. The huge tube previously inserted into her mouth for breathing was taken out. Later, on Sunday, we visited her again and to our surprise, she was more ACTIVE and STABLE, according to the nurse! The best part was that she could be discharged from ICU if everything goes well the next day.

Finally, she was discharged from ICU on that Monday itself. Praise the Lord! It was a great feeling to her marble eyes looking at us again. Her face was no longer swollen or reddish. She even started to move her arms, legs and head more than before. She started to kick around and practicing her baby language too.

Later, she was finally discharged from hospital with an institution aid in lending them the breathing equipment, costing RM35k.

Zhi Teng is now safely home with her family and her story doesn’t just end there. We know deep in our hearts that she will be a strong and normal girl well, attending school, growing like a normal girl should be, knowing and growing in Jesus as well thus bringing hope and light to her world. We praise God that God loves and care for the children as well. All glory be unto the Lord. Amen!
